Columbia Parents For Public Schools celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008!!!

What have we been doing?

We helped educate parents and pass funding issues during 1999 (tax levy); 2002 (bond issue); 2003 (tax levy); 2004 (bond issue); 2007 (bond issue).

Co-hosted annual school board candidate forums

Actively participated in superintendent searches

Provided educational programs for parents – several of which were shown on channel 16 – on such topics as parent-teacher communication, school safety, testing, and other issues

Provided information and resources to parents at community events such as Messy Morning, the annual backpack give away, summer lunches in Douglass Park, and the September 2008 visioning forum.

Participated in district-wide committees, including the high school steering committee, the Achievement Gap Task Force.

Provided information and helped parent and community groups identify and connect to grant opportunities through the PPS national clearinghouse

Helped find new, more parent-friendly options for resolving district-wide issues on special issues such as the transition to all day kindergarten.

Attended national leadership conferences
