Columbia Parents for Public Schools attends National Parents for Public Schools Training Conference

past_events_regional_pic1Recently, members of Columbia Parents for Public Schools (CPPS) traveled to Portland, OR to participate in the National Parents for Public Schools Regional Training Conference.  Essentials for Impact:  Getting Back to Basic, the conference theme was held February 27 – March 1 in downtown Portland.

In addition to the Columbia Parents for Public Schools, other chapters from San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle were in attendance.  The two day conference included capacity building workshops focused on technology, communications, and fundraising.  Anne W. Foster, the executive director of the National Office of Parents for Public, addressed the group in attendance with her vision for all chapters.  Attendees had an opportunity to share the most current education issues in their local community and how their chapter has been involved.

CPPS members in attendance had an opportunity to participate in the Portland chapter’s annual Parent Leadership Conference.  This conference in it’s 9th edition, has been monumental in bringing together parents and community leaders to discuss challenges in their local public schools and an action plan for change.
